In this era, is it more beneficial for a women to divorce her husband?
If you are a woman in this era, would it be more beneficial for you to consider divorcing your husband?
Option 1:
- Stay together.
- Possibly raise a happy family.
- Accept any flaws or things you don't like about your husband.
- Accept any flaws or things you don't like about his family, friends, or life.
- Raise the children the way you both agree.
- Share the wealth.
Incentivised - Option 2:
- Divorce.
- Take full custody of children with a serious allegation against your ex
- Do not tolerate any of his flaws or things you don't like about him.
- Do not tolerate any of his flaws or things you don't like about his family, friends, or life.
- Raise the children according to your preferences, disregarding your ex's opinions.
- Retain the wealth for yourself.
It is the second option that poses an issue, as many women are choosing it. If it were fairer, something like this below:
A fair - Option 2:
- Divorce
- Shared responsibilities in regards to the children should continue, (unless the parent chooses not to see their children or to see them less frequently).
- Divorce should be equally applicable to both men and women.
- Children should still be raised by both parents, if this is what the parent wants.
- Shared parenting and the division of assets should be at least 50% for the person who contributed to it.
Perhaps then, women would be less inclined to choose option 2. After all, if men had that choice, they might opt for it as frequently as women do.
Maybe this is the problem in the West? The problem isn't with women; it's with the available options that incentivise women.
If divorce were fairer, there might not be a record number of divorces in the West. Maybe its time to make those options fair, so marriage will be a fairer and better option for all genders.
